Playing outside unsupervised, what age?

Eventually kids grow up and want to leave their own yard. Sad, but true.

At what age would you be comfortable with your child being outside without direct supervision?

I dunno...maybe 10? It really depends on the area we live in. From the time I was 6 and we had moved in with my Papa, we ran free. In the woods, in the neighborhood, in the creeks, the nearby subdivisions, everywhere. We walked to and from school, we walked to and from friends houses up the gravel road, to and from the stores...as long as we took Buster and Mississippi with us when we were in the woods (Papa thought they'd keep us safer from the Coyotes and Buster and Sipper were big dogs) If we lived there now, though? No chance in hell. That place has become 10x more dangerous, with or without coyotes. It's the people I'd be more worried about. It just depends on where we live and how mature my kids are.

We have a fenced in yard so the kids can go out alone if they will (4, 2)..But they won't play outside this summer. At my parent's they have to have an older kid (10-12 yrs) or an adult because of the busy road and creek.

In the subdivision, I was always monitoring and listening but cann ot remember an exact age. At both homes the children were and are not to be out front unsupervised. They have to have a parent or older child out with them.

We started at age 4 and 5 but I steadily poke my head out and check on them. We have boundaries and they know they will loose their privileges.
