Fess up! Did you take some hospital baby blankets home?

I see so many of my friends and family using hospital baby blankets at home and see many in pictures as well. I even took some home with my first and the nurse told us we could. Little did I know at the time that the hospitals consider these stealing and they don't like having to pay to replace their blankets. Many hospitals are now even limiting how many they put in your room to avoid theft.

So fess up, did you take some hospital baby blankets home?

The diapers, wipes, and pads are thrown out if you don't take them. But blankets are not supposed to be brought home.

Yes, the do want you to take everything that can't be reused. But blankets are laundered like all other hospital bedding and reused.

I took everything that wasn't nailed down. :) Figured they wouldn't use them again, they would still bill me, and I need them.

I am confused why people think they don't use the blankets again, in every hospital I have worked at they reuse all washable bedding over and over again. So in your hospital they pulled out brand new, never used blankets when your baby was born? I have never seen that before.

The blankets may have been used again, but they had open packets of diapers and other equipment that they would not use again, because the cost to disinfect them would be more than the cost to get new and no new mother I know would take an open pack of diapers and use them on their newborn if there was any chance someone else touched them. Booger suckers are almost impossible to clean properly and even if you didn't use it, the staff didn't know that so they would toss it anyway. I only took one or two blankets for memories sake (Ahhh babies first snuggle thing) but I took everything else they had there because I knew they wouldn't reuse it.

some hospitals are different. I've had nurses pack things for me and other nurses that watch me lie a hawk to make I don't try to take anything I'm not supposed to.

I believe I did. I was told to since they would charge us for everything in the room. Wow, guess I was misinformed and I am a thief!

I did take a few home with all of my kids. My nurse helped me pack my bag and told me to.

I only took a few swaddle blankets with my first child. I ended up having to make swaddle blankets because my babies were so big that after a month the standard size swaddle blanket no longer worked for them but they still needed to be swaddled. I also asked the nurses for lots of extra supplies such as diapers, wipes, formula (in case I would need it), hemorrhoid pads for my bottom and anything else I could think of that I would need. Oh I also asked for a new set of bottles, tubing, etc for my breast pump since the hospital was using the same brand as the one I had purchased. The nurses were happy to give me these items. Also the nurses said I could take a few swaddle blankets home since I didn't have any and when I say a few I mean three.

I took two of them. The one I slept with (for scent purposes since she was a preemie) and the one that she was swaddled in at the time. I took all of the pads (csection) since they would be thrown out anyway. Any of the preemie diapers I could get my hands on, the extra formula in the cart. I took three tiny baby hats and the bulb syringe to suction out her nose. I was so upset when I lost the bulb and had to buy another one. lol

The hospital sent me home blankets with my first two children. The second two kids they came in and counted the blankets to make sure I didn't take any but at the same time they started going through all of the drawers and handing me stuff to take home.

I did with all 3 of my kids. The nurse even gave us extras. When I had my first the nurse told me to take everything out the cart before she went back to the nursery so they would have to re stock it so I had more to take home. Lol.

I know I took whatever the hospital said I could take, my daughter's 11 now so it's hard for me to remember all that included. I know I didn't take anything they didn't tell me I could. So I don't believe I took any because those were something the hospital intended to keep. The diapers, wipes, baby food, pads etc I took because they told me to but i'm pretty sure I left the blankets there. I had so many blankets anyway, and I have so many blankets for my son too that I don't even want the hospital ones quite frankly lol.

I totally did. I knew I was stealing them when I did it, too. I know it's wrong. Judge me all you want, I couldn't care less.

They gave us a pink one with little white bunnies all over it, but it came in like a gift basket-type thing, so I'm pretty sure I was supposed to take it.

We were given so many that we didn't take any of the hospitals. Though I'm sure it is very common.

I have a friend who had her baby and was told to throw every bottle they used away that they weren't allowed to use them more than once, she stashed them in her diaper bag for at home. We used to call the baby bipolar nipples because he would start a feeding with one nipple and Finnish with another.

No, I did not. I did not pay for them (even though my son used them), so I did not take any. I didn't take any t-shirts for him that he used, either. I wish they would have let have his little t-shirt. A rude nurse threw his hospital bracelet away. I was upset. So, they issued me another one.

The only things I took from the hospital were the diapers. I did not need the blankets because I had a huge stack of homemade receiving blankets in my bag
