Public Bathrooms

Does anybody have any tips for helping kids get over the fear of the automatic flush toilets?? I have tried everything I've heard to stop the toilets from flushing while they go but they are still scared of them-can't say as I blame them much.. I've covered up the sensor, I've flushed it before they went (most are set so they won't flush within like 90 seconds of it flushing)... Eva pottied in her pull up because it scared her, Andrew about did too but braved the toilet. My poor kids were in tears.

No tips here as we avoided public bathrooms when my children were little.

Well, I try to, too..but when you are shopping fo three hours with two toddlers it's unavoidable. The grocery store that had the old-style toilets got new ones :(

I traveled with a little potty in the van.

Yeah I will have to do that...But there isn't any room when we go grocery shopping so we are still stuck in that department. I just wish they would build the kid size toilets in the family bathrooms without the automatic flush. I know the mall here has them.

Andrew was scared enough he was in pain and could barely walk before we got to the next store. Eva sat but then it flushed despite the sensor being covered. :/ We got in the bathroom for Andrew and she screamed...

Me too.. The first thing my four year old looks for is the handle to flush.. If he doesn't see that he suddenly changes his mind about needing to go potty.

I am covering it up, but they look for the handle or the black box... If it' that black box they freak out before it even does anything.
