What should i expect?
I will be 38weeks tomorrow, and my doctor will be checking my pelvic and other stuff down there. What should I expect? How does it feel, what all happens? I am a first time mom.
what does it feel like? is it painful?
It's uncomfortable, but that's a given since someone is in there checking a cervix. Not painful though.
It's definitely awkward and depending on how your cervix is, can be a little painful. I have a tilted cervix, so for them to get a good idea of effacement and dilation, they have to kind of search around... not. comfortable. They will check to make sure baby is head down and in a good place for delivery. I was 0 effaced and 0 dilated at all my lead up appts and when I got checked into the hospital at 41 weeks for induction so I'm not sure what it feels like if your cervix is more cooperative, but it's not a super awesome feeling, that's for sure.
It will be a lot like all of your other appointments except that they'll also to a pelvic exam. I was a little tender down there when they checked me but as long as you keep your muscles relaxed it won't be too bad. For some reason deep breaths and breathing through my nose helped.
Mine just checked for dilation at that point haha. I was 1.5cm my 38th week. :)
