My story :)
No real earthbreaking news here, but I thought I'd give everyone a little more detail about my life (there wasn't enough room in the description part when I signed up!). I am a mom to three boys. Lucas and Landen were both born with a mild/moderate bilateral hearing loss - which throws us in that "special needs" category. We are currently in the process of doing some genetic testing to see if we can pinpoint a reason as to why and hopefully help with any health issues down the line. Our middle child was born without a hearing loss, but has had his own uphill battle. When he was very young, he was sick every week. We battled and battled this, even seeing a pediatric infectious disease specialist and they had no answers. We finally got a referral to what I refer to as a "natural" doctor who simply told us to take him off dairy. We slowly integrated that, and I am beyond amazed at the results! He is like a different kid now. We still have some issues with his growth and his speech, but are working all of those out. As a result of his special diet - it has however meant that we all have removed dairy from our diets (I'm not cooking two different meals!), so we eat a heck of a lot different than most people and I have even been known to purchase some (gulp!) vegan cookbooks. I work outside the home for a local government and am married. My husband recently became a stay at home dad. We knew it was the best decision after our youngest was born - even with our special need just being hearing loss - it does take a lot of extra time/attention and we thought it was best to have one of us home to focus on that. So, with that change, we are also now living paycheck to paycheck trying to make ends meet. We are however loving the freedom it gives us. That's it, that's my life in a nutshell! So happy to be here and so happy to be able to share joys, frustrations and experiences with other moms!
Wish you good luck with genetic tests!
I think having a dad stay home is wonderful, just like having a mom stay home. I know our society is funny about these things though. Has he gotten any weird feedback for being a stay at home dad?
Do your boys have total or partial hearing loss? How has this affected them communication wise?
Sorry if I am being nosy, I am curious. :)
