The trauma of parenthood?

I think this article is a little dramatic, but still interesting. It states that anyone that doesn't love parenthood will have guilt and shame. Well I don't know, there's plenty of things I didn't love about the infant stage and I don't feel guilty for admitting that.

Do you think this article is accurate? That we suffer from trauma because we can't validate our negative thoughts on parenting?

I am have been experiencing the tantrums and daily screaming fits during the day. I get nowhere in house cleaning and when I need to make phone calls, I have a toddler screaming bloody murder in the background so I have to get off the phone.

I'm with you and Debi, I think trauma is a bit much but we all go through a transition for sure. It seems like we do for every stage of parenting but we adjust, adapt and life goes on. I think the guilt of any past mistakes diminishes as children get older and you see how they are turning out, if they are turning out right that is, and that is when a parent is free to unload that guilt and worry of whether or not a child will turn out alright.

I do not find parenting traumatic, but there are moments when I feel overwhelmed and become a little stressed out. Like when my toddler throws tantrums and blood-curdling screaming fits for sometimes no reason at all, or when my pre-teen step-daughter is out of control, mouthy, and does not respect nor listen to anyone. Yes, those days I just want to hide from it all, but it is in no way traumatic for me. Parenting comes with good days and bad days.
