Pet sitting as a viable job for teens

Our girls are going to be taking care of a friends farm and inside animals this weekend. This is the second time they have had the opportunity to do this. Then the owner of the orchard down the road asked my husband if our girls would be interested in taking care of their chickens while they go on vacation. I think pet sitting is a viable job for teens. I also think it is a good way for them to get references before they head out into the job market.

What do you think?

I agree. My husband's co-workers daughter is looking for a part-talk job, and i suggested pet sitter, or dog walking next to babysitting. 1) most kids have animals, so it would be a comfortable situation for them. 2) it is teaching them responsibility to take care of someone else's pet. 3) They might take this opportunity to learn more about animals and might want to become a veterinarian. 4) I think they could use this on a resume.

Our girls are super responsible but since none of them drive, I am with them on these jobs, so that isn't even an issue for us, thankfully.

That is hard. I've had to share with my children that sometimes people say something they either don't really mean or they forget. It's hard to even explain something like that to them when they are young.

My twin sister and I have pet sitted for neighbors before. I think it's probably about as viable as baby sitting, depending on the situation.
