Tracy Morgan suing Walmart
Have any of you read about this? About a month ago a truck driver for Walmart caused a fatal accident that killed one person and injured many more. Come to find out the driver had been up for over 24 hours, obviously making it dangerous to be on the road.
I know a few guys who drive trucks long distances. They have to keep books on the times and miles they drive, so this guy had to have fudged his books. I don't know if Walmart is at fault for that, but they should have realized what he was doing and told him not to, at the very least.
Is Walmart liable? Link below.
Can I just say that I think it's ridiculous we set the maximum work day for truckers at 14 hours? The typical work day is supposed to be 8 hours. So many industries don't respect that and it just makes me sad that the law says the max is 14. You know that the corporations will do anything to save a buck so if they can hire one driver to do 14 hours instead of two to do 16 hours they will. So instead of two productive, well rested drivers they have one person who is worked to death and one who is unemployed. Nobody's happy. Even the corporation is stressed out because their decision causes incidents like this one that they have to deal with.
If they just hired 2 people to work standard hours it would be easier. Who knows, maybe it would even fix our unemployment issues in the US...
