Egg Roll Recipe

My mom's friends were missionaries in the Phillipines in the '70s and brought a local recipe home. She couldn't find the ingredients they used so 'Americanized' the recipe... So here is the altered version. You can use these veggies, or whatever veggies you like Julienne them or fine dice them. When we make them now, as we alway did, we at least triple the recipe and make a ton of them. They freeze good and warm up in the oven on 350 for about 20 minutes.
1 pound raw hamburger
1-2 eggs
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1/4-1/2 cup chopped celery
1/4-1/2 cup chopped carrots
1/4-1/2 cup diced mushrooms

Mix it all raw, drop by tablespoon in an egg roll wrapper, fold, roll and seal. On each roll, brush the wrapper with some warm water to help seal it. Deep fat fry at 325 until brown.. It usually takes a few to know if you have enough or too much filling and if you roll them tight enough. That takes a lot of practice.

Sweet and Sour Sauce
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
1 teaspoon soy sauce
Put all in a pan and heat on stove. This makes enough for about 6 egg rolls.

    he can save his kisses for you lol.. I have heard you can bake them with the initial cooking, but I've never tried. Dad always wants them fried and he will stand there and do the frying. We used to get the whole family involved. :)

        I'm from the Philippines..I've seen many variations. Back in the 70s I wonder how many Asian/oriental markets were wonder they had to substitute ingredients....They did a good job!!! I use scrambled egg whites to seal the wrapper. I find the contents stay in the wrapper and hold up better in a fryer.

        I'll have to try this recipe. I never knew about making sweet and sour sauce so I have to try making that too.

        I'll have to tell my mom that. She is good at wrapping them, it's when the grandkids help that they fall apart! LOL
