Clean House? Where?

Warning-one long frustrated rant, read at your own risk. lol

Who needs a clean house? Apparently not me. Let me start from the beginning lol.
Three years ago the family (brother in law and wife, hubby and I and mother in law) opened a dollar store in a our small town. I was at the store full time-it in fact literally fell apart when I had Eva and was gone for two months... I had to fix everything when I got back.. A year later it went under. My brother in law walked away and left everything to us. A month before we went under we were banned from selling on Amazon-which was half our income. So now, we were stuck with $30k in merchandise, another $20k in paraphernalia (that is SO not spelled right...) and $90k worth of debt for my poor mother in law who trusted her son, the entire business was in her name... Needless to say, by the time we went under with me being at the store for 8 hours 5 days a week and 4 hours one day-the house was a complete mess. I thought I would finally be able to start keeping a nice house...
My mother in law had the entire store basically boxed up and moved to her house... My brother in law and his wife started to go take whatever it was they wanted-we stopped keeping track because there is no point. Hubby and I try to sell stuff online and we are doing ok at it... The kicker is that whatever we list HAS to come to our house or it will disappear without notice. The problem is there is no room here. A few months ago I literally stuffed the van full to bring stuff over...and we have no room... There are boxes in the living room and what used to be a dining room. We can't use the basement because I refuse to go down there-I'm terrified of basements and spiders..
This week we are trying to get rid of an electronic sign we had..Guess who gets to take it up there? Me. So... I am trying to find a friend to sit with the kids so they aren't left alone in the car. My mother in law can't lift and hubby isnt home until after they are closed. I had planned on cleaning and organizing the office so we had room for the boxes. I guess not.

I only wanted one thing before Grace came-a dining room so we could eat at a table. ONE THING. We were SOOOOO close...and then the mother in law interfered. UGH. I just want to hide in a hole. I don't want to do this, but it's a thousand dollars in our pockets if they buy it and brother in law won't... Every time I plan on doing something here-something comes up with the store crap. I just wish we could have somebody come buy it all. Then mom would have her basement and garage and I wouldn't have to package stuff up almost every day.

I'm sorry if the question is ignorant, but are there other dollar stores willing to purchase your merchandise at discount? It would help alleviate your space issue, help with making something back, and they win too on SRP. I would look to those who sell in cities with higher cost of living than yours first.

Not ignorant, but we've tried. None of the chain stores will do it, and we have yet to find another locally owned dollar store in the cities around us. :/

We can't afford a afford a storage shed. That was our first thought, too. BIL has taken pretty much everything that isnt crap..at least that they can find.. we have hidden some things from them and told them they are gone because we know we can sell them around Christmas. I don't know how she hasn't strangled him..the stress from it has made it so I don't talk to his wife anymore-so no family get togethers which is more of a tragedy for mom than anybody else.

Yes, you would think so, wouldn't you? But if he does he sure has a funny way of showing it-even to mom.

Wow.. that is a stinky situation for sure, Tabitha.. so sorry you not only are dealing with a business that went under, but now all the STUFF staring you in the face.. ugh! Can you have a big ole yard sale?? I can't imagine how much you want that dining area, just one thing that will give you some sanity and hope! Maybe tell your husband how much that would boost everything for you? Give you something small to hold onto to weather this storm!

We were planning on it.. But things keep getting thrown in our face and we just haven't gotten things sorted out that we want to try and sell and that we just want to get rid of. That and mom's basement flooded last summer and we are worried about us being down there with the mold we missed, let alone the baby. I'm hoping we will sell the digital sign-I just took it to somebody so they could test it out.... If we could just get rid of the shelving that would clear up so much space.

I cannot imagine even keeping my sanity let alone my anger in tact over the bil and sil! I would view this as a phase...it too shall pass. Once you have things sold, you will have your house back again and so will your mil.

Have you tried Craigslist? Or are you doing that already?

No luck. I've tried garage sale sites, selling just through knowledge around town... There's just SO MUCH... I hope it passes soon. :)

I know and it will, maybe not as soon as you would like but it will. :)
