I think I have read a few people comment that they have had a homebirth. My sister had an unassisted child birth in April, baby came too fast to go anywhere. I would love to have a homebirth if we are blessed again. We are still debating on the unassisted part, though.
I think it would be easier for many reasons, at least if you are comfortable with it. For me I think it would, because hospitals stress me. Nurses coming in every hour to see how I'm doing, residents or midwives constantly wanting to check me... I just gave in to get them to leave me alone. I would have my own bed, my own house, my own food... The place where I feel safe, comfortable and don't have to worry about making a loud noise and bothering somebody in the next room.
Feeling safe and comfortable during birth have been known to help ease the feeling of pain and ease your stress level making for an easier labor. But you do have to be comfortable in doing it. I would definitely beg my mom to come and stay with us to help out for a few weeks so I can rest and concentrate on baby.
So if you decide to think about a homebirth and have no idea where to start, here's a site to visit. First off you have to find an independent midwife that will come to your house, then go from there.
She came over the weekend after Grace was born and didn't help...at all... Not even with the older two. I got lunch made, told Dennis I was tired and took the baby and laid down. I was so mad.
