How often do I use the word "No"

We all raise our kids differently and that is the beauty about how different we all shape up to be. In my personal opinion I don't like to use the word "no" to my baby.I use a hand gesture or make a sound "tch tch" if need be but mostly I would rather avoid putting her in a situation if it will make me say no. I don't want her first few words to have a stern " no" in it. Babies are like little Einsteins they explore everything and fear nothing. I don't see any harm in my daughter wanting to touch and feel everything around her as long as she is safe and away from the things that might make me say "NO don't do it".

I think I used no quite a lot when our children were younger. Now my husband is known as being the no-man, whereas I have become the yes-man. We have to be sure to ask our children if they've ask the other parent before responding because quite often they will come to me after they've asked dad or visa versa.

I absolutely loved the way you explained it Debi.. I can always hear myself saying "keep it positive " over and over again in my head. Somehow I think positive words lift people up be it adults or kids. I think babies listen to us even more intently than adults do so it's evermore important to be assertive and positive with words. They are just so impressionable. Theresa my parents did exactly the same thing with us too. I think my husband is a no-man too so I keep it more bright and lighter with words.
