Children with autism more likely to drown?

I thought this was a very interesting article as I had no idea about this statistic. According to the article autistic children are more at risk to drown.

In fact, "In 2009, 2010 and 2011 91% of the child autism deaths in the U.S. (kids 14 years old and under) were from accidental drowning."

Woah! That is a staggering statistic!

I know that you have to teach water safety to all children, but I didn't realize this was such a high risk situation. My son is a great swimmer so I don't worry about him so much in water, but I do keep an eye on him like a hawk, I do with both kids.

I've heard of this before too. Always read it's due to wandering and being overly focused on something else then not noticing the water. Scary statistics though.
