Lol it's ok. We are fairly new to it. I just traced one of his disposable diapers and sewed two pieces of material together. I didn't add any elastic or anything on the leg holes I just fold them in. I sewed Velcro on for the closures and we use plastic diaper covers. I think I paid $6 for the diaper covers for 4 of them and like $2 for the Velcro. I made inserts out of old receiving blankets and t-shirts and someone gave me the material so I barely paid anything for the 20 diapers I made.

I use AppleCheeks, which are some of the higher end diapers, but they do hold their value extremely well. The covers retail for $19, but you can get them on sale for less (I know liltulips.com is having a sale right now), and then when you are done, you can sell them for $15-$17 if they are in decent condition.

When I had my first child I thought cloth diapering was disgusting and only for hippies, but I gave it a shot and found out I couldn't have been more wrong. It is SO EASY and I end up touching far less poo than I did when using disposables. The cost savings can't be beat - especially if you plan to have more children (my second two kids have had a total budget of $0 on their diapers and when you go to resell it gets EVEN BETTER.

I was also worried about laundry when I started, but I actually really enjoy doing diaper laundry - it makes me happy and is very relaxing (unlike regular laundry!).

I never had any luck at all with disposable inserts, and they were expensive. You can use any kind of inserts with covers, or any system that is an "AI2" (like AppleCheeks!). Pocket diapers or all in ones come with the inserts.

I cloth diaper. I haven't tried too many brands but I love Kawaii diapers. They are a pocket one size diaper, you can put extra stuffing in them to make them more absorbant and the have the outer shell for waterproofing. These are fairly cheap. I start off with prefolds or flat folds for the newborns with a flip or bububibi water proof cover because the one size fit about 10 pounds and up. When I started, my sister sent me to greenmountaindiapers.com. They are a store, but they explain EVERYTHING there. Every type of cloth diaper, essentials you need. There is just so much there to learn about.
