There's an app for that, cell phone use in school?

Should kids be able to take their cell phone to school for use?

I ask because the school requires that kids use the super expensive graphing calculators for the higher ed math classes. But, there's a completely free app for that!

In fact, there are tons of apps that would be helpful in class. Dictionary, thesaurus and translation apps are very easy to find.

Should kids be able to use their phones in class for this reason?

I would not be ok with kids using it for that reason because there is no way to enforce it. The kid could be on the internet or texting a friend. Maybe if there was some technology to restrict what could be used it might help but I think most kids are smart enough to figure out a way to get around it
No. When i was in high school calculus we even had our graphing calculators banned because somebody learned how to 'text' on them and sent test answers to everybody. It would be so much easier with cell phones.
