Mom The Doctor
I remember getting hurt a lot as kid.. including animal bites.. but we never went to the doctor because mom knew what to do. It's another mom hat. Here's some tips.
My mom kept iodine in the medicine cabinet.
Yep, and then it would fade to a yellowish color. I think it may have stained a few of my clothes even. I get cut doing dishes, at times. My hubby panics, "Do I need to take you to the ER and get stitches?! You're bleeding!" They're usually minor cuts, and only one time did a cut require stitches. Lol
If I burn myself while baking or cooking, I do the same. We have some left over Silvedine cream for when my hubby was burned rather bad. I put it on the spot and continue. I heard mustard was another remedy for burns.
I remember my mom would use Iodine on me. I played rough!
Yeeouch indeed! Unless we needed stitches, we went to the doctor. Although, I hid a lot of injuries from her. Lol We were outside kids.
That sounds PAINFUL.
Don't ever do it unless you need to. Grandpa only did it for himself long enough to stop the bleeding to get the ER. He had a woodshop in his garage and most of his injuries came from there. I remember one summer I was helping him, heard the saw go funny. He shut it off, told me to go get the salt, grandma and the car keys. I told grandma he needed salt and her first response 'that foolish old man is gonna cut another finger off'. Yeah... next three hours were spent in the ER watching them sew half his finger back on-but he barely lost any blood because of the salt.
He sounds like a tough grandpa! :-)
