WIC

Grace turned six months old Sunday which means we now get baby food. What the heck am I going to do with 60 bottles of baby food a month plus 12 that are meat? Wowzers. On the plus side, in three more months I can exchange some of that for fresh foods.

I think it's something that was started in the last five years because they didn't have it when my now 9 year old was a baby, but Andrew got it, too, and he's 4 1/2.

I was told I get so many because she is breastfed. Last time I just mixed it in with food..but with Eva's allergies I'm scared to do that.

Yeah see... I would think it would be the other way around. But I guess they figure formula is cheaper than food?? Who knows. I know Eva never ate half of it, but I did more soft or overcooked food with her. I DO know I'm going to be getting lots of applesauce because it doubles as butter sub. :) Great in pancakes lol. That is if Grace doesn't want it all.

Yeah, that's what we get and we aren't allowed meat with it.

It's amazing to me... Even my big eaters didn't eat that much real food.

The 60 jars are fruit and veggies, but breastfed babies get the additional meat.

Yeah. When I made my own I would just smash overcooked foods with a fork until they were ground enough. But I always stuck with avocado, bananas or boiled egg yolk for a few months. I plan on getting as organic as I can on WIC (beech nut), I'm sure I'll do the same for at least part of it with Grace until she gets the hang of eating, but I'm good to keep fresh foods for the rest of us.

That does sound like a lot. Glad you can exchange what you cannot use.

When Tristen got the the point that he wouldn't eat the baby food anymore, we had so much left over from when he was on WIC that I donated it to our local food bank. That and all the baby cereal.

I'm not getting the cereal, I just finished the boxes I had from Eva and I'm not feeding anymore cereal, it's bad for their guts.
I doubt I'll get it all, either. It depends on how much she eats.

Yes, it is a great way to sneak foods in, but I have to be careful with that because my 2 year old is allergic to beta-carotene (anything red, yellow or green). I am planning on getting extra applesauce because it's a butter sub and can make a snack for anybody if Grace doesn't eat it.

My son doesn't have a problem with extra jars. Lol But they don't give him meat on his.
My boy isn't over weight but he sure can pack away the food. He looks like he is 9-10 months old because of his height. LOL People are shocked when I tell him he is only seven months.

I prefer the fresh foods for them as well, so I hope they do that here.

LOL Grace is in 12 month clothes at six months and has a ton of hair. People always think she's older.
Ask them! A lot of states can give you certificates (or something...) to go to farmer's markets instead of the grocery store for fresh foods.
