Hearing That Heartbeat For the First Time...

I was eight weeks and 2 days when I first heard my son's heartbeat. I was elated and cried. It was the most beautiful sound I had ever heard--the most beautiful symphony ever composed. I wanted to hear it over and over again. Upon each time listening to it, it was as though I were hearing it for the first time. It was still beautiful every time.

When the ultrasound tech told me that heartbeats of unborn children can now be heard at six weeks, I was amazed. It's incredible what technology is capable of as it evolves.

But, a baby's heart begins to form before we can even hear it. It starts formation at 5 weeks gestation.

How did you feel the first time you heard your child's/children's heartbeat?

Isn't it the most incredible song ever heard?

Yeah, when I saw his little bean shaped body on the screen and then heard the heartbeat it was like: "Oh my goodness, I am actually pregnant!" Lol They did a 3-D when I was that far along, too, and he looked like a gummy bear. Haha!

The 3-D when I was seven months a long looked more like a human baby instead of a piece of candy. I hope that didn't sound bad.

I loved listening to it too! During labor I asked them to turn up the volume on the monitor so I could listen. I was actually able to see my baby's heartbeat on the ultrasound before we could hear it. It is such an amazing experience.

That's what we did as well. We sat and listened to it while we waited for me to dilate more.

That is amazing that they can hear baby's heartbeat so soon. We didn't hear our babies' heartbeats until much later. I was always in awe every time and relieved.

I was the type that worried until I could hear it again. It stopped though when his movements got stronger.

Indeed. And being able to hear it each time we went to the docs was awesome. I wish I could have had it recorded.
