Scratch, Mama, Scratch...Or. Maybe Not
I remember into about my six or seventh month, my belly began to itch like crazy! A coworker caught me and lectured me on how I was not supposed to scratch my itchy belly. Well, it's rather hard NOT to when the thing feels like it's on fire or a million ants are marching about all over it! LOL
Why do our bellies itch during pregnancy? It's because our skin is stretching and the stretching causes the skin to dry out more, losing moisture.
I kept my belly well moisturized with Palmer's Stretch Mark lotion, Vitamin E lotion, and Cocoa Butter. Out of all of those, Palmer's seemed to keep the stretch marks at bay and my belly itched less. You need to find a cream or lotion that works best for you and keep that itchy belly well moisturized throughout the day because itching it will only make it itch more. Yikes!
I applied it in the morning, afternoon, and before bed (usually 3-4 times a day), and I would lift my shirt up near my chest (when at home of course, haha) because my shirt rubbing against it would irritate it as well. Plus, it makes for a good excuse to go shirtless at home. Lol
