How do you keep your home organized?

Do you have a daily or weekly cleaning schedule or house schedule you use for your home? I'd like to know what you have found to be an efficient strategy for your organization. With our changing schedules and a growing toddler into everything, I am looking for a new/different approach to keep a better organized and toddler friendly that can make everyone happy if possible. With or without children or even pets, there are different practices that can work. What works best for you?

I clean while Tristen is taking his nap. I clean the whole house besides his room once a day and sometimes clean the living room twice.
But the thing that helps me the most is I don't have a lot of dishes. I have enough pots and pans to make a meal and enough plates, cups, bowls and silverware to get through one day. Cutting down on the dishes makes it take about 10 minutes to do them even without a dishwasher.
I also have decorative baskets in the living room so when I don't have a lot of time I throw stuff in them and then clean them out when I have more time.

Well, I think the best thing that has worked so far is a fairly loose schedule. I do dishes, vacuuming, picking up toys, and usually some laundry everyday. Then I designate days for certain areas. Ex. Monday-master bathroom cleaned, Tuesday-Kitchen cleaned, Wednesday-Kids' bathroom cleaned, Thursday-Shopping, etc. I either complete the task while kids are napping or I have them help in their own way. Lily puts washed clothes in the dryer, has her own vacuum to mimic mama, I give her baby wipes to clean her table, etc. If they can't help, I give them quiet games to play that occupy them while I work.

very nice. I had set days before but got off track as his patterns changed a lot for a while but I may need to go back to that again. Mondays I used to do heavier cleaning of floors, bathrooms/tiles etc. windows interior/exterior, floors, and at least one main load of laundry. Then focused on different rooms throughout the week. And it allowed me to have the rest of the week to do things with little man. I may need to revisit this with the new upcoming schedules once stabilized again. :-)

I don't have one. I have given up on organizing the books and DVD because the hubby and older kiddo cannot grasp the concept of "put it back where it belongs." Lol
I try to keep up with the laundry because, if I don't, it becomes overloaded and feels like I am folding a mountain. I do the same with the dishes. I dislike clutter in my home as well. We want to get a shelf soon with cubby holes and keep the cloth containers (they fold out to a square) for toys for my son and future kids. My daughter has her own room and is older so there isn't much toy playing going on as she gets older.

I can sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust all I want but with a hubby and older kid, it never stays clean...nor do glass windows and doors. Lol

Oh, I do keep a plastic container (it's about 4 inches deep) and it's filled wit rocks. If it's raining and/or muddy outside, the shoes go there instead of tracking the mud through the house. It is by the front door.

You're welcome. I found it in one of my DIY mags.

I feel the same, I try to always keep it clean and organized but some areas get cluttered and it erks me, but more so it erks Mark. He is almost to the degree of OCD when it comes to cleaning. It can be a challenge with him at times on this considering we have an active toddler and 4 dogs lol but he has calmed down thankfully. When we had carpet before we had our son and each of our little rescues, (because it was his way of living prior to our relationship) he would vacuum and expect everyone to walk on the borders of the room to keep from ruining the lines on the carpet... I'm sorry but that's just unreasonable to me. Lol! He was special lol. I had to prepare him for saying goodbye to those days. haha :-)

I get up 2 hours earlier than the kids. I make my coffee, relax for a few minutes, and then I tackle some housework. This is when I sweep and mop the floors, because otherwise my 2 year old slips and falls and gets hurt on wet floors. I put a load of laundry into the washer before bed, that way when I get up in the morning I just have to switch it to the dryer. I clean the bathroom while the kids are in the tub, and clean the shower in the morning while I'm in it. I only vacuum once a week, and Kaylee has a pretend vacuum that she follows behind me with and "helps." She also likes to dust, so I give her a wet washcloth and we dust together. I fill the dishwasher with all of the dirty dishes and run that just before bed. I also wipe the counters and clean the sink at night that way I don't have to see any filth in the morning. I just kind of clean as I go. It works well in our house.
