Tips on How to Avoid or Minimize Heartburn Symptoms during pregnancy

1. Avoid gaining too much weight as this puts excess pressure on the stomach contents
2. Don't smoke
3. Eat six small meals rather than three big ones and eat slowly
4. Stay upright for several hours after eating and try not to eat big meals prior to going to bed
5. Try to minimize fatty foods, processed meats, chocolate, coffee, alcohol or spicy foods
6. Don't wear clothing that is very constrictive around your abdomen or waist
7. Ask your practitioner to recommend an antacid. Always check with your practitioner before taking any medication or supplement, even if it is over-the-counter medication

Great advice. I get heartburn a lot and all these thing help quite a bit. Zantac also does wonders for me when it does hit, but I don't think it's pregnancy safe. Maybe.

Great tips! There were times that I had to sleep almost sitting up as well because as soon as I laid down the heartburn would super kick in.

Very good tips. I know I always paid for it if I laid down too soon after eating, which was hard not to do at certain points of my pregnancy!
