Can bilirubin levels go back up after having phototherapy?
Yes, they can go up but it is rare for them to go up enough to need additional treatment. Generally once they are on the way down and treatment is no longer needed then it will keep going down. I have known a few babies who have bilirubin issues for a few weeks and they go up and down.
My daughter had to be out under the lights when she was 4 days old for 48 hours and they said her levels dropped below a 9 but somebody keeps telling me she is looking a bit yellow again and I don't want anything to become a long term affect. That person scared me a bit! I'm happy I have an appointment for her tomorrow
Keep us updated on how it goes. :) Prayers for you and yours.
My son's never did but he is older now and is able to be in the sunshine. You can always ask her doctor.
Yes. Are you nursing? Keep nursing, feed her as much as possible (even with formula), sun light-take her outside as any house windows newer than 1990 filter out the rays that help get it out of her system. How high are her levels?
Well she did photo therapy for 2 days when we got discharged from the hospital almost 2 weeks ago and when I went for her docs appt the next day he said she was fine but she is stil looking a bit yellow.. Idk if it is because dad is Spanish and she has his completion but it's not all there yet.
My youngest that got the Cuban complexion looked more yellow but had the lowest bilirubin levels of them all, so I assume it was just the genes. :) I always had to look at her in flourescent in the stores to tell if it was anything to be concerned about. Look for it in her eyes, that's the easiest place to tell when it bads. My boy struggled with it for a month before his body regulated, but they didn't get concerned until he was up by 16 with the level.
I had her docs appointment today and he said that she is okay!
