Eeks..buying a phone for my oldest

I cannot believe we are at this point. I got a blog opp enabling me to buy our oldest a cell phone. It only comes with two months of service so we will have time to decide if this will be the right route to go for her when she heads off to college.

I also saw some ads for Tracfone that only costs $7/month that may be a cheaper route for her, if this one is too much of a monthly expense for her to carry.

I just want her to have a life line when she is away or gets stranded.

Anyone buy their child a phone? Did you add them to your plan or go a different route?

We are not at that point yet. And I dread it just thinking about it.
Having nieces and nephews, their parent(s) giving them phones was not the best decision--minus a few because they are actually good kids. But, some of my nieces and nephews should have never been given a phone to begin with (I happen to have them on my Facebook and constantly shake my head at what they post and the pics of themselves, too; it's awful and shameful). But, I believe your daughter is much different than some of my nieces and nephews, so you have nothing to worry about. When the time comes for Jaina, I hope she will not misuse the phone because if she does, bye bye phone.
I had one niece who ran up an expensive phone bill for her father due to consistent use of the phone he gave her. We have talked about getting a track phone for ourselves because we have a cell phone for emergencies or to ask each other something while my hubby is at work. But, we pay 30 dollars a month for a 1500 minutes and I believe 1500 texts, which we do not use. And we never use all of the minutes.
I don't want to event think about one of my babies heading off to college and away from us. I would be the weeping mother at the graduation and college campus. LOL

She's already worried about going over minutes, not that she talks on the phone but she probably will start, especially with her cousin, whom she is very close to. I think she's fairly responsible in most areas, the phone will be one of them, but definitely needs some growth in other areas.

It seems you have a good one there. :) Feel blessed.

I should have said web use not minutes because she has unlimited talk and text.

That sounds like a good deal. It will be interesting to see how she likes it and how much she wants to keep this phone.
