I'm on a Mission

Any cloth diapering mommas know my pain. I have a hard time finding pants that fit my babes while they are still in diapers. It's the one downfall of cloth diapers... I went through four pairs of pants trying to get Grace's legs covered this morning before I gave up and just covered her legs with a blanket.

So now I'm on a mission. I'm going to go to the thrift store this weekend big kid free and find some clothes to repurpose to make Grace some pants or leggings or both.

That's one of the patterns I just downloaded. I will probably end up doing both, it'll depend on what I can find to repurpose at the thrift shop.

I have some for my son. I had a coupon for five and only had to pay shipping. And, after I purchased the five, I could have as many pairs as I wanted for two dollars more. They have both boys and girls. It cost me maybe eight dollars for all six. They can be used for the arms as well and will fit into late toddler stage.

You are welcome. I would not have gotten them unless I had a coupon. I prefer the Goodwill or clearance racks.

No I don't. We wear our clothes until they are falling apart. Except for the kids, but I don't want to cut up kid clothes in my stash.

But yes, the no sew pattern I found is just cutting knee high socks at the ankle.

Are you finding the pants do not fit, as in too big or too small? I found most ran big, even for cloth diapers especially once they were on the move - my babies would crawl right out of the pants! And disposables the pants just fall off. There was a huge size difference in some clothes with my oldest compared to my youngest, especially for pants. They were a lot bigger with my youngest for anything new he was given, that is.

I can't find pants that fit over her hips and diaper, too small (I tried 18 months today). The weather is starting to turn so it's becoming a big deal.

My hoarder hubby said I can go through the clothes he has been trying to sell for a year on Ebay. :D So maybe I won't have to spend money.
Elizabeth, my biggest issue is I refuse to pay $3 (or more) for anything they are going to be in for maybe two months.... so I buy used, but everybody seems to have kids the same sizes as mine so it's hard to find what I need.

I never even thought about this problem. How do you repurpose them? Just making them shorter or is it a whole sewing project?

I traced around pants that fit her (found in the bottom of the laundry closet), cut then resewed the seams and added elastic. I posted a picture, 'Grace's New Pants'. :)
