Teen Salt and Ice Challenge

.. Just saw this on facebook so I thought I'd look it up. I don't understand why people come up with challenges just to hurt themselves. The worst we ever did in school (besides the pressure to get drunk) was jump off the bridge into the canal full of water (well..for those of us who could swim which wasn't me) and go to the 'haunted' cemetery.

The Salt and Ice Challenge (from wikipedia)
The mixture of salt and ice lowers the freezing temperature of water, and causes an endothermic reaction which can greatly reduce the temperature of the mixture.[3][4] [5][6] This can quickly cause second and third-degree injuries similar to frostbite. Due to the numbing sensation of the cold and possible nerve damage during the stunt, participants are often unaware of the extent of any injuries sustained during the challenge. Participants risk suffering frostbite-like symptoms and second or third-degree burns. Skin discoloration from the challenge may remain after the challenge has been completed or failed.[7][8][9]

I don't get it either. I'm pretty practical and other than a few stupid things as a younger pre/young teen (done with friends), I didn't do too many stupid things other than be mouthy with my mom, who did not deserve that treatment at all.

Good grief. Kids these days. It seems the outlandish stunts get even more idiotic and riskier. I want to ask, "why?" but I feel it is pointless.

      It does feel pointless.

All I can do is pray and hope my children never succumb to this behavior.

My niece (12 how can she be 12????, anyway). My niece told her dad about something the 4H kids were trying to get her to do at camp.. So the next 4H meeting he took his computer after finding a video of what it would do to them. It seemed to stop their stupidness for now.
