Are childbirth education classes really necessary?

Unless you are an avid reader/researcher, I would have to say yes childbirth education classes are necessary and helpful to new parents. I know I did not know much at all when it came to birth and became more educated in hospital procedures, birth etc, through our Lamaze classes (though I would not necessarily recommend Lamaze now, Bradley classes would be more in line with my birth beliefs). I continued to learn even after my first child by reading different books by different authors, watching videos, etc. I am continuing to learn, obviously, even though I am probably done having children.

Were your childbirth education classes helpful to you?

The only ones I ever did were watching YouTube videos with Grace and reading posts on Ina May Gaskin's website. And yes, those were helpful.
I think I would like to take a childbirth class, but I will at bare minimum read a lot and watch on Youtube.
