Do you encourage same sex friendships over opposite sex friendships?

I am curious mommas, do you tend to encourage same sex friendships amongst your kids over opposite sex friendships?

I never have ncouraged it one way or the other and it seems like both of my kids prefer the opposite sex for friends. They both have best friends of the same gender, but over all their friends seem to be the opposite gender.

Do you encourage your kids one way or the other? Why or why not?

Yep, my daughter is an example of that. And so are my nephews. These kiddos are 11-12 years old, too.

My daughter being interested in boys drives my husband crazy. I just laugh. She likes a boy at school an awful lot and it makes her Daddy cringe. Lol

I played with both growing up but a vast majority of my friends were boys, including my best-friends. I didn't have a female best-friend until Jr. high. I don't encourage it but allow her to make her own choices. I do not see anything wrong with a girl and boy being best-friends.

Oddly enough, my hubby and I were best-friends before we fell in love with one another.

I wish my mom had encouraged me to have more female friends when I was young. I always hung out with guys and they were good guys. I got a false sense of security with males and it didn't turn out good..
