Problem with smacking

I have having trouble with my daughter who is only turning one on Friday with smacking. I don't know why she started this because her father and I never smack her or is she around anything like that. I don't know what to do to stop her from doing this. I have explained to her it's naughty but she is only going to be one so she doesn't really understand. Any Ideas in what I can do?

I suggest trying to redirect her. Anytime you see she is about to do it try to distract her and get her to do something else. Don't make a big deal about her doing it because your reaction may be feeding into her behavior. I think at this age it isn't a bad behavior and more of "look what I can do".

Yea I figured that was what it was was look what I can do also. I have tried doing something else so she won't do it but it never happens because she goes right back to it. I will pick her and kiss on her and before I can even kiss on her she is already smacking me in the face. People like family that see her get smacked in the face also. I just feel bad because I don't want people thinking I allow my daughter to do this. We have another little one on the way and I don't want her hitting the new baby too.

Just keep saying a gentle "no" and move her hand away. Stay calm and gentle with it to help keep her calm and gentle and not feed into behavior.

Getting to upset about it just seems to make them want to do it more. I agree with trying to redirect and gently saying no. She will get it eventually.
