crib

My son will be 9 mos on the 24th. I have had him in the bassinet beside our bed . The hubbs says it's time he goes into his own room. I agree and disagree. I would love to have more "alone" time with the hubbs, but I'm not ready to let go yet. I know I need to, how can I make this an easy process for him and myself both? Also, he has slept in a snuggie (swaddle) since day 1, is it easy to make the change from snuggie to pajamas?

If your son is sleeping well then I say why change a good thing. There is no reason to stop swaddling him if that is working well. Experts recommend babies sleep in their parents room during the first year to help reduce the risk of SIDS. To help give you some more alone time is it possible to scoot his bed farther away from your bed? Maybe keep him in your room but just not so close?

Just be prepared that moving him to his own room might cause him to wake up more frequently or be more difficult to fall asleep. Stopping swaddling may cause issues as well. I would only make changes if he is showing signs that he is ready for changes. Good luck!

I absolutely LOVE Katie's answer.. because guess what, my son just turned 8 months old and he still sleeps in his mini crib next to our bed :) But you know what.. he does rather well and I love that Katie said "why change a good thing".. I also love the reminder about reducing the risk of SIDS.. I often remind myself, I'll blink one day and he will be 5 and won't want to snuggle up with me :) Soo.. until then, I say we enjoy it! Perhaps the issue to help fix here is just more alone time with your hubby! Could you spend down time together in the livingroom once the baby has gone to sleep?

I say present these ideas to your hubby and see if you can come to a compromise.

Thank you ladies. I think We'll keep him in the room with us a while longer. I asked about the swaddle because he is a big boy, very long, tall like his daddy and I am finding it hard to find more swaddles to fit him.
