Chickens not laying...

It has become a lot cooler here and with the cooler weather and the days getting shorter, our hens are not laying as much as they should or could be. Our of over 90 birds we are barely eeking out two dozen eggs a day. I wonder if we are missing some or an animal is getting them? :( Though hubby has been looking in the long grass and the perimeter of the pasture. It is just such awful numbers. In a couple of weeks I plan to start selling our older flock and hopefully people will buy them for stew birds or something.

Our coop is in our hay mow so putting a heater up there would be pretty dangerous. Now if they would stay in the little room up there, maybe, but they don't, unless we catch them all and put them in there - too labor intensive for us.
