When your child is a genius ...

So my middle child, Alex, is a prodigy student. He is a genius and way above grade level as well as more mature for his age. He is 12 going on 20. He has won Channel 7 News Kid of the Year, Radio Disney Guest DJ for a week, Honor Roll ever since he started school, Soccer MVP Award, etc. etc. The kid is so smart, sometimes I feel like an idiot when I'm with him because I'll say something and he will LOGICALLY reply to the point I want to kick myself for not pursuing a career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Education just so I could keep up with him. Though he is a genius, he is still a little kid and well, he still has a lot of growing up to do ... like the time he went to ride his friends motor cart and it didn't have breaks, so he decided it would be smart to use his foot as the break when he smashed into a wall, thus crushing his foot and breaking it ... hey, when you're a genius, something else has to faulter somewhere right? I guess common sense was his downfall at time? LOL At any rate, So we all get up to go Black Friday shopping this morning and I tell all three of my kids they each get $50 to spend. They jump out of bed and start getting ready really fast. I say "BUT you have to spend it on each other!" They all jump back in bed and moan! I say, "Omg lol really? I have spend my money on the three of you for Christmas but you can't spend it on someone else? How selfish!" I scold. Alex says "Fine then, let's just make this easier on all of us and if I give Rachel $25 and Rob $25, can they just both give me $25 too and we can go buy what we want??" .... I dislike having a smart and cunning son sometimes! /facepalm Oh the joys of motherhood!

LOL. That is awesome. Just trade money around and spend the money on themselves.

If I could ever get my oldest to pay attention she could be a genius. She is such a fast learner when she pays attention. Curious of everything. My youngest is going to give Big Sis a run for her money on just about everything. They are both very curious and very fast learners. I thought about homeschooling but I know both of my girls's desire to learn is going to surpass my ability to teach in a hurry. They are going to be into things in school that are going to be way above my head. I am going to be learning it as they are.

I hear ya Teresa! I have much respect for those who home school. I cannot do it. Two of my children are Autistic and deserve much better educational focus with a professional in the field than I am capable of providing, and the other one is such a genius that I wouldn't be able to keep up with him to begin with. I feel sending them to a public school works best for my situation and because all three of my children are good, respectable, and kind-hearted students, they are the kind of students these schools need today in order to deliver a better message to other children and set a good example for today's future. But that's just my situation, every family is different =)

Every family is different. We are open enrolling to the neighboring school because they have a better curriculum and they are a much smaller school so the girls will get the one on one that they deserve with their teachers when they need it and the school we are open enrolling to is very academics oriented. They have a good music department and they are good at sports also. The school district we live in is very much politics run and it doesn't seem like they are as concerned with academics as much as sports. I don't want my girls to fall through the cracks. They deserve all of the opportunities my parents gave me and the opportunity to do things I never even thought of. They deserve a great education and the opportunity to explore all interests that strike their fancy at the time.
