The family dog

The first attempt- we had a pittbull when I was 16, he was my best friend. My mother had just gotten custody of my brother Camdyn with the biological mother still having visits. I told her "Natasha I'm going to school if gunner wants in put him in his cage he won't listen to you he's a one owner dog" for nonpittbull people that's just how they are he loved me and my now husband that was it no one else. She didn't listen she brought him in and let him run he went after the cat playfully and my parents dog in a mothering way tried to redirect him, he was a good dog but had given the cat a heart attack so now Oliver was dead gunner was confused about why the cat wasn't playing anymore and dutchess wanted him to stop. Natasha (my brothers birth mom) threatened to call CPS because "our dogs were vicious" false but whatever it came down to that option or risking losing Camdyn. My mom of course took my dogs to the local humane society and went back with dutchess to say goodbye, she hated gunner though so she didn't go back with him. Anyways needless to say our first attempt at the family puppy didn't work.

Fast forward to now

My husband used to raise dobermans, I was always afraid of dobermans. He decided we weren't getting another dog unless it was a Doberman. Here we go that's my option Doberman or dog less forever. So obviously we got our Doberman, everyone else calls him Sampson I call him jack. Well I can honestly say I'm glad we got him. He's only 3 months, and so protective of bentley it's amazing. We go for walks and he randomly sniffs bentley like he's making sure he's alright. It's great. Bentley can pull this dogs ears, tail, leg, lips, and ride him Sampson jack doesn't care. He loves bentley he sleeps under my nightstand on bentleys side of the bed and checks on bentley through the night. My only worry is that he will become over protective. Bentley being the youngest of 4 is the target of lots of upside down belly patting, the older kids are coming to my house for turkey day tomorrow, I've asked them to knock and not just walk in because idk how he's gonna react he's never met them. I'm not stopping them from sibling play though. Sampson jack is just going to have to learn that it's ok. We will have 3 out of 4 tomorrow, Mikey j is in Juvie still.

Pitbulls can be great dogs, but they are one owner dogs and need to be single dogs, mostly. I am glad you understand this because most people do not. They tend to have a very jealous side to them. We have had them in the past. I like all dogs but have never been fond of yorkies. I have only met several in my life and have only liked a few of them. I have three small dogs, but I would love a big, furry dog like one of those 150+ mountain dogs, Saint Bernard, or a Golden Retriever. Labs are excellent family dogs though. We have a chihuahua-pomeranian (she was a rescue and nearly died as a pup), and she has claimed my son. She doesn't like strangers or other dogs near him (including the ones who live here). As soon as I brought him home from the hospital, she fell in love. We make a joke saying Sebastian is mine (mini Dachshund), their puppy is Jaina's, and the mother, Saedee (the pom-chi), is Jonah's. And say that she chose him rather than he choosing her. I lost my dog to my son. Lol

That's cute how Jack behaves towards your son. It will be a great bond. I like the name Jack better, too. I have a cat at my mother's named Jack after the Pirates of the Carribean. Lol

I've never had a pitbull, or known anybody that has had one. I'm sorry your lost your dog.
My brother had a doberman when my niece was a baby. That was the gentleness dog on earth as long as she knew who you were. When she was bit by a rabid raccoon she wouldn't let anybody out of the house..like she knew she would hurt them and didn't want to. They had to call somebody to put her down. :(
Can your husband be on dog duty at least for part of the day to make sure Sampson understands they won't hurt Bentley?

Our family dog still has her fights with Andrew, they are about 8 months apart in age, we got her first. She's always helped him goes to sleep and when he has nightmares, but the second he starts wrestling with daddy, she gets offensive and growls and snips (you know that warning snip they do when they don't like what you are doing?).

      Have fun tomorrow!
