4 months and eating?

My sons doctor told me to go ahead and try baby food. He said to try rice cereal for 4 days then if he does ok with it then to start stage 1 baby foods, except don't do the fruits. He said save the sweets for later. Now my son is 16.5lbs and 26 1/4inches long. I have been doing research and a lot of moms suggest waiting till 6months and so does the parenting books. I did the organic whole grain rice cereal and he did great, I actually got more than 3hours of sleep, i got 5hours of sleep!!!! I was beyond happy. I did make his baby food, and I will be making his baby food. I use all organic produce from a organic vegan store. I am not vegan, but I want the best for my son, and the produce there is fantastic , its a bit more expensive but its ok. Any ways, I made sweet potatoes for him using the babybreeza i was given (it steams and blends your baby's food, so cool) and thinned it out with his formula so it was a similar taste and thin to swallow. Now he did great with it. At first it was a little different of course for him, and he had that toungue reflux but after a few tries, and ate 2 ounces of sweet potatoes which was 2 spots of the ice cube try , in 3 feedings breakfast, lunch and dinner along with his normal bottles. He didn't spit anything he ate up. I was extremely proud. I and going to wait 3 days to see if he has any reaction or issues following the food before I feed him again. Should I continue to feed him baby food even though he is 4months old? I've heard it can cause allergies early on...... I am a first time mom please any advice is great.

Personally, I wait until at least 6 months and try to avoid the baby cereal.. Their tummies aren't made for real food yet.

That being said, every kid is different. It seems I have a plan with each baby and they all start different and at differet times. With my youngest I refused to start any food until she could sit on her own. It's helps the digestion. Then we started on fruits. Because of allergies she can't do many veggies. As of now, she mostly eats a scrambled egg and cheerios throughout the day.. She's a cheerio maniac lol. I would have loved to wait longer, but she wasn't satisfied with just milk anymore, so we started.

With new foods, I do it for about 3-4 days on one food. That should give his body time to react if there's an allergy, through poop too. My girls can seem just fine with a food-then they poop it out and their entire bottom is beet red from it indicating a sensitivity.

You gotta do what's best for your little guy. If he is seeming more content, keep going. The only thing I would say to avoid is the baby cereal.

it is not recommended to start from rice cereal anymore. I introduced first baby food when Mark was 6 months old ( breastfed for 18 months). It's important to remember that baby's milk continues to be more important than solids at this age - don't worry when baby won't eat more than a few bites. I started with oat cereal, banana, avocado, sweet potato, squash. Start slowly, preparing a very small amount of whatever food you have chosen to begin with.

I started Tristen around that time too. He was beyond ready to have real food. He still got his breast milk and formula but loved the food too.

Thank you. He did great with the sweet potatoes. I didn't feed him any today, and wont for the next two days because I want to make sure he doesn't have any kind of reaction or issues. But I got told I am a bad mother because I started him on cereal, even though his doctor told me to. he is finally sleeping longer than he has before , I am now getting 5 hours of sleep instead of 3, so I am very happy

My doctor told to the same thing about only starting cereal and seeing how my daughter did with this. She was still very hungry and gave me a really hard time with trying to feed it to her because it doesn't really have an taste to it, so I have to put it in her bottles. I started stage 1 baby foods at around 5 months with her and there was an immediate positive change in her personality and how she acted.
It has been about a month since I have started her on solid food, I am now feeding her cereal for breakfast w/bottle, a veggie or fruit w/bottle for lunch and a veggie or fruit w/bottle for dinner. I introduced the foods slowly to make sure that she didn't have any reactions to it and she eats all the fruits now and three different types of veggies willingly. She is even starting to sleep thru the night most nights and if she does wake up, she goes right back to bed without a fight. If your son is reacting well to the solid food, I would continue to try to feed it to him.
