Sleep Strike

My son has been on what I call "sleep strike" for some time now. He is even taking less naps, and short ones at that. Needless to say, we are running on about 2-3 hours of sleep per night. I have tried just about everything. Even co-sleeping isn't working out anymore. He is not too hot or cold, he has a fresh diaper, is fed until he is full, etc. It is like he has forgotten how to sleep or just refuses to.
Do you mothers have any suggestions as to why my son will not sleep?

My youngest does that some nights. I have to make sure she doesn't get a late afternoon nap, and then I just sit in the rocking chair with her and rock her until she goes to sleep.
We had to cut Tristen down to one nap during the day at about 7 months, that helped for a while. Just last week we had to stop naps altogether. He had gotten to the point where he didn't want to sleep at night. We have just kept to the same routine every night, even if he cried and he has eventually settled in. Sometimes it takes a while. Or when they are learning a new skill or going through a growth spurt. When Tristen leaned to crawl and then walk, we were getting no sleep.

Thank you, ladies for the advice. I have been researching as well. Sometimes he does take a nap between 2-3 pm. I may need to stop that and try to keep him awake until his bedtime.
