Shriner's Hospital

Some of you already know that my son has Syndactyly. It is fusion and/or webbing of digits on either the hands, feet, or both. My son has it on his hands (his middle and ring finger--both hands. One is all the way up and is fused together and the other one is partially up and slight webbing). I had to take matters into my own hands and find him a surgeon. My mother suggested Shriner's since she has been there when she was a girl. I am rather frustrated with his former pediatrician and his new one. It seems the former gave us an inexperienced surgeon (mainly does plastic surgery and breast implants), and the new doctor never gets back with us. I know he is busy, but this is important as well. So, I contacted Shriner's. Within the same day, the called me back and had an appointment set up and even sent me a packet to provide transportation to and from the hospital since he will be having multiple visits. My hubby will be driving there for the actual surgery because he wants to be there for it. He wants to be there for the visits as well but needs to work also. So, this way, he does not have to miss much work.

Thank God for always being there for us, even in the darkened moments.

So glad you found some help. The Shriners are awesome. :) I don't know much about the medical help side.. But I know my husband's niece got a bad burn on her foot when she was a toddler and they are still seeing her twice a year to check on how the foot is growing and the skin graft (she's 14 now).

That makes me even more comfortable with them. Thank you. :)

That is great! I have some friends that have gotten medical help from Shriners and they are awesome! They provide great medical care, and they care about kids way more than some private doctors out there.

And that is the type of care I want my son to receive. No way was some surgeon who said, "I need to look at my text books before I operate" going to touch my baby.

Yes, me, too, thank you. :) It is less for me to stress over, too.

Thank you, Elena. My mother went to Shriner's as a young girl, and I have talked to other mother's whose child has the same condition and many have attended Shriner's and enjoyed it. I am hoping the same is for my son.
