First Birthday Party Planning

The is my first time planning a birthday party. We have quite a few guests arriving, not TOO many but still enough people, and I am a bit nervous. Everything is set, I just have to make the food the day before. We aren't having any games or prizes, being mostly older children (preteens and young teens) and adults are coming. I am just nervous. I want to be a good hostess, I suppose.

Here is what I have so far:

Decorations
Cake ordered plus small one for Jonah (we are getting one and just adding our own cake topper--a Hot Wheels Semi Truck and candle).
Food planned
Invites sent (waiting on rest of replies)
Gifts wrapped
Camera is almost ready--I need to transfer pics and videos to CDs so I have space.

I did not want to go too much "all out" but I still wanted it to be memorable and nice. This is my first child (minus Jaina from marriage) and Jonah's first birthday. Not only that, we both stem from big families who all wanted to be a part of his celebration--they all love my kids, deeply. I also do not mind other family members attending.

How did you all celebrate your children's first birthday?

ooo ahhh. :) Cake, favorite food for dinner. Eva's birthday is Saturday, she has requested a Thomas cake and a Thomas present. We're having pizza for lunch and Grandma is coming over.. The other grandma and Adrianna might be able to Skype while she opens presents and blows out candles.

Awe. :) Eva's a doll! I love Thomas the Tank! Jonah has a few things Thomas--I hope he likes him more when he is older. We are doing a Hot Wheels theme. He seems to like those a lot, even though they are for older kids.

Jonah was almost born on the tenth. I had him at 11:05 pm. Lol
Grace shares a birthday with one of my nieces. It won't be long and she'll be celebrating number one.

Do you get a little sad that they are growing up too fast, too? I am sad because the months went by too quick but joyed because he is growing and learning.

Eva came at 2:23 PM (How I remember that is anybody's guess....) It makes me sad, but at the same time it's so fun to see their personalities develop.
I have NO idea what we are doing for Grace.

We just brought some inexpensive decor, not too much. I paid 75 cents to a dollar each for them. We brought and outfit and a toy because, like Christmas, they get an abundance of stuff from other people and I do not have much space to put it. Lol I could see games if he was two-three or older.

We kept Tristen's first birthday pretty simple. It was just family, I made some sub sandwiches and potato salad, I made cupcakes and we let the kids play in Tristen's room and then he opened his presents. We got some decorations from the dollar store. This year is going to be mostly the same except I am just doing cake and ice cream and no food.

We were going to do sub sandwiches but we went with hot dogs instead--a lot cheaper. I am making potato salad and macaroni salad. I may go with icecream next year but it gets uber cold here.

Renee's 1st b-day is coming up on 12/13, we are having two separate parties, one for my side of the family and one for his. The reason being something happened between my mom and my MIL when I was in the hospital giving birth to her last year and my MIL has not gotten over it...............yep.
          For his family:
hot roast beef sandwiches for the adults
Chicken fingers and French fries for the kids
Attempting a homemade cake (Wal-Mart is down the street as a back up) if the homemade attempt fails
          For my family:
Pizza or Holiday leftover's because they cannot play well with other :)

It bites when others do not get along with one another or refuse to. I am sorry you are enduring that.
I will be planning a second birthday party soon. It goes by so fast.
