Toddler bed transition

Help! I recently transitioned my 2 year old to a toddler bed two weeks ago due to him climbing out of his crib and it has been an absolute nightmare. He will not lay down on his own to sleep and it turns into a game. I eventually have to rock him. Which he is beginning to fight. My oldest was so much easier. Any advise would be great. Everything I know to try is not working.

With our daughter she was difficult to be in her own bed. Constant crying and she was very scared. I would pull up a chair by the bed and just sit until she fell asleep. It would take almost 2 hours at times but by the time she fell asleep she would stay asleep. I would have to lay her back down when she tried to run out of the room and wanted to grab her toys out or things like that, I would tell her "It's bed time, not playtime, the faster you go to bed the faster you wake up and get to play" It took about a month and a couple of times I couldn't handle the crying and would just walk out and let her cry herself to sleep. It won't be a walk in the park, but it is worth it getting them unto their own bed. Hope this helps
