Goat Milk Soap

Per Mariya's request, I am sharing about my 14 yo daughter's goat milk soap business. She sells it at two markets, plus to farm customers who come to the farm. We are hoping to grow her business in the next year because profit margins are quite good, especially if we can get into markets that do not charge a fee to vendor.

I was just doing a little blurb for our farm newsletter so I am going to cut and paste it here for those interested:

We thoroughly love goat milk soap and fell in love with it the first time we tried it. Our Goat Milk Soap is all natural, handmade by our daughter (14 yo), contains no chemicals and very moisturizing. Until we find the goat for our farm, we get our milk from local sources. It's hard to find! The goats are raised on fresh pasture and supplemented with grain. Our last batch we know are fed organic grain. We make our soap in small batches. Bars vary in size and color.

Our Goat Milk contains: Organic Palm Oil, Organic Olive Oil, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Shea Butter and Lye (which is saponified http://www.realhandmadesoap.com/folders/FAQ/what_…) We use 100% pure therapeutic grade essential oils to scent our soap.

Essential Proteins, Amino Acids, & Vitamins A, B6, B12 & E, all of which help nourish the skin and help seal in moisture.

Lactic Acid helps make Goat Milk soap a very gentle cleanser, tolerated by even very sensitive skin.

Goat Milk soap has proven beneficial for people with acne, eczema and psoriasis. (Source: http://www.naturalnews.com/040766_goats_milk_soap…; http://www.natural-health-home-remedies.com/goat.…)

Teresa, thank you much for the details! Very informative! I'd like to try your soap - hope it'll be an occasion to visit Chicago area soon).

Making a soap was your idea or your daughter?

I have set up an etsy shop but wanted to get more inventory loaded before making it live. I ran into trouble installing a cart on our farm website and have yet to get back to it. Anyone recommend a user friendly, easy to install shopping cart for a Wordpress website? But yes, you can ship it if packaged correctly. That's how we tried our first goat milk soap actually and fell in love with it.

Mariya, I just asked my daughter whose idea it was and she said she thinks it was both of us. She's definitely my farm girl and we talk a lot about stuff. She's wanted a goat for years but got her cow first. ;) Let me know if anyone wants to buy some. She'll have more available in a few weeks as it takes 4 weeks to cure. One batch might be ready before but we have to test it to make sure it turned out correctly.

We went to a farm friend's "field" day and learned a lot about soap a couple of years ago. She's the one who gave us the recipe, told us where to go for our supplies etc. So she gets credit too.

It's pretty easy. I should actually video tape B the next time she makes it. We are waiting for a local farm's goats to give birth so we can get more goat milk! Should be any day now.
