Essential Oils

My son is an overly active toddler. He is far more hyper than any toddler I have ever known or seen. I went from no red-dyes and sugars after 6 pm to five pm, and he was asleep before 8:30 pm. Thank goodness. But, he needs something to help calm him at night or during the day and to sleep through the night. He is also up at 5:30 am some days. And, he never has more than a 30-60 minute nap--if I am lucky enough. ADHD and ADD run strong on both sides (many generations). I have ADHD and my husband has ADD.

I have tried lavender and chamomile bath and lotion, but none of this works for him.

Have any of you ladies tried essential oils to calm your hyper child? If so, which ones? I am thinking a lavender one will but I am wondering if they have a chamomile one?

The calming essential oils, i've never really seen an effect with.. It's mostly diet change, background noise and a regular routine that helps mine.

With cutting out sugars, juices, and dyes, I did notice a change but he is still waking up in the middle of the night. Part of it is due to teething, but this boy has more energy than three toddlers put together. He was up at 4:30 this morning, wide awake. It's like, he doesn't know what sleep is! Lol

I've stuck to a routine and they do not have TV an hour before bedtime. He is like the Energizer Bunny.

LOL. Sorry, it sounds like what I have said about Andrew. I wish I could help you, but we are still trying to get him to sleep through the night. the few times he has, we have COMPLETELY worn him out late in the day.

With Tristen as bad as it sounds, we cut out naps completely. He's in bed before 8 pretty much every night. He has a foam ball in his bed and a few other toys but he normally sleeps until 8-9 in the morning.
One thing I've noticed with Tristen is that he is the kind of kid that it works best to let him go until he crashes. He's SUPER active and the whole relaxing thing just isn't his speed. Lol we let him watch his favorite cartoon right before bedtime because it's the only thing that makes him be still for a while. I know for Tristen he just gets bored and it's hard to keep up with him, the boys brain is always going!
