There is a brand of toys called Melissa and Doug and we are going to get Tristen probably a set of something, maybe blocks, and then just a few things for his stocking since I know he is getting so much stuff from other people. Then we found a family who are family friends and we are going to buy them Christmas gifts and surprise them, that is the rest of his gift. We did that when I was growing up and the funny thing is that I don't ever remember what I got as a kid for Christmas but I always remember leaving that box of stuff on someone's door step or sending it to them.

my family always buys gifts for a family in need every year. It feels so rewarding to know that another family is getting gifts.

Eva is getting starter sewing stuff-because she BEGS to sew while I am....
My oldest daughter LOVED the Leapster thing with the read along books... I don't know if they even make those anymore lol.. Honestly for the girls we had to look HARD because they don't know what they want... so we try and pay attention to what they play with now and get them something similar.
In the past we've gotten them reusable sticker books (they are like window cling material), Daniel Tiger and pooh play sets...
We just look online at the recommended toys for whatever age if they can't tell us what they want. Even if we don't get it at that particular store, it gives us ideas.

I bought my son's toys on Amazon but I could not figure out what to get Elise even after browsing the kids section. I did saw a trampoline but don't know if I should get her one or not? To help burn some energy. She likes peppa pig but she has lots of her toys already. I might stop by Family dollar they have lots of toys and not so expensive since she outgrows them fast.

Nina's been big into drawing lately and has always loved building, so I got her some MegaBloks (big frickin legos), a toddler-sized desk/chair, and a lot of crayons/paper. Her gramma (my mom) sent her some play-dough, washable markers, etc to add to the drawing love. Also got her some singing books and other little toys, but it was centered around creativity mostly.

We got Jonah a play kitchen because he likes to help in mine and won't leave the oven door alone (we have a baby gate up when I am using the stove/oven though. We also got some small toys for his stocking like a play key and keychain that make noise, a roaring dinosaur, and a Superman action figure. We also got books and two outfits for him, one with an extra shirt. He and his sister have five movies to share to keep them entertained throughout winter. Jaina (my step-daughter--she lives with us) got the same amount of clothes and books as Jonah. We got her a miniature air-hockey table. And then lip gloss, a toddler barbie doll, and some jewelry for her stocking. We only got them one candy treat because they will be eating other desserts/treats during the season and hardly touched the treats we put in there last year. Some were thrown out because they got stale--same with Halloween candy.

Last year, we got them quite a few toys and between what we got them, their aunts, grandmas, papaws, and their nana got them, we had no room for any of the toys. They had to be piled up in our living room for a while until we brought more storage containers, shelving units, and reorganized their bedrooms. They are spoiled by relatives.

So, this year we decided on one big toy and a few small toys that can fit into their stockings. My cousin shared this idea, and we have been doing it for a while, too:

                  The four gift idea:

                  1. Something they want.
                  2. Something they need.
                  3. Something to read.
                  4. Something to wear.

We do this so we do not have an abundance of stuff for them and nowhere to put it. Plus, they barely played with all what they got last year. Most toys were not touched until about 9-12 months later. I am not kidding. I like the four gift idea, and we will continue to do it every year. We do add: Something to watch as a number five because we live without cable/satellite TV. We do not even have an antenna. Lol So it is anything on DVD for us.

Jonah's birthday is coming up and we got him play power tools (because he loves to play with my small cordless drill without the bit), play food for his kitchen, and an outfit.
We will get the same amount of items for Jaina for her birthday.

Oh, and to add...I brought all of these things on clearance throughout the year, minus two movies.
