I'm Struggling With Potty-Training

My son refuses to wear diapers. He takes them off, especially right after he has urinated in them or done another deed. I have sat him down on his potty several times, but he either laughs or gets up and slams the lid down saying, "No!" I know he may be ready because he takes off his own diaper or pull-up when he has done something inside of it and throws it away himself.

I have an in-law who keeps telling me, repeatedly, to put underpants on him instead because he won't like the wetness. Well, this is why he takes off his own diaper. I am not going to have him waltz around without a diaper or pull-up because pee will be everywhere and the amount of laundry I will have to due will accumulate. Plus, we have a little one on the way and I really do not want to step in urine throughout the day, I know the underpants will not help anyway because he is just refusing to sit on the potty.

How have you mother dealt with stubborn kiddos and potty training?

With Tristen I had to give up control. If I put him on the toilet he wouldn't go. My husband taught him to stand up and go pee and the days told him to do it himself he has been potty trained. Except at night. He HATES to not have clothes on and the first day I made him just wear underwear and that was all it took, he did it right cause he wanted his pants back. Lol

What Amy said. Andrew hates to sit still, but once daddy taught him to pee standing up, he was all good.. I bought a few packs of those plastic pants at walmart along with training pants he picked out... Now if we could just get him to poop in the potty.
With Eva we had to a get an extra potty chair, one for the living room and one for the bathroom. yes, there are still a few days where they have to change multiple times a day because they forget or just don't want to go...
At my mom's house, she sets a timer for Andrew... Some days it works.

Thankfully for us, Tristen is tall and can crawl on the toilet himself. We have one of those seats that go on the big toilet and he just climbs right up. Lol

Jonah is somewhat short. He just recently started fitting in 2T pants and shirts, though they are still a bit big on him. He is 34 inches tall.

I have a little training potty for him. He likes to put his toys in it instead or will sit on it with his clothes on but won't go on it without clothes. Lol It's funny but frustrating.

Yeah see, Tristen just turned 3 a week ago and is 40 inches tall and wears 5T clothes. Maybe a little step stool would help him too.

He is tall. My hubby is tall but I am not. I think my son may have inherited my height. We will see about this girl when she is born.

No. He works 5-6 days a week and comes home late in the afternoon. I told he needs to help him. He has shown him a few times but maybe we do need to wait.

Thank you, everyone. Maybe I should wait until Spring time to see if he is ready.

We have been potty training James for almost a year. He doesn't like going poop in his pull-up. He's a little backwards compared to most kids potty training. He loves going poop on the potty, and he is night trained, if he does go potty in the middle of the night he will wake up and usually let me know quick that he is wet. We let him set the pace so he doesn't feel pressured. He tells me when he's wet, but hates going pee in the potty.
