I'm a FTM my baby was born Friday night & tonight I look over & a family member is giving her a bottle of water...just water...I've never heard of doing this...is this okay?!?
No it's not ok to give a baby just water. They can get water intoxication that makes there body not able to heat and cool itself properly. You don't give a baby just water till they are a year old. I would call your baby's doctor right away. And if you notice a change in the baby's temperature go to the hospital right away. You should try and keep your baby awake for the next few hours. You can't check the temperature if the baby's sleeping. Hope this helps.
Babies go on volume of food not calories, so the calories in breastmilk or formula to fill their tummies is just what they need. Since water has no calories, baby is getting no nutrients. It is very dangerous for baby to have just water especially as a newborn.
And congrats on baby :-)
No! I remember the doctor telling us that straight water could send a baby's organs into shock and force them to shut down.
No, it is not okay! A small sip is fine for a baby a few months older but nothing more.

I've been w/my husband almost 7yrs & married for almost 6. We'd been trying since we got married to have a baby, & it just wasn't happening. We had both went to the doctor & nothing was wrong w/either of us. I had given up, but now we are finally pregnant.
