Root canal therapy during pregnancy?

I'm in the second trimester and I have been suffering from severe tooth pain, swelling, and tenderness. Is it safe to get root canal therapy (… ) during pregnancy?
I'm unable to eat or drink anything other than room temperature liquids. This is the first time I'm suffering from tooth pain and one of my neighbors who is doing medical course said that these are the symptoms of a decayed tooth. She said there is pulp in the tooth nerve because of which I'm not able to tolerate the pain. I had been taking Tylenol but it didn't have any effect.
I have consulted the GP in my locality and he said I might need to undergo root canal therapy from a dental care clinic in Toronto asap. I know dental work can be done during the second trimester but I would like to know more about the local anesthesia. While researching online, I saw that epinephrine is not safe during pregnancy but it allows the numbness to stay in our system for longer period. Is there any other anesthesia that is safe enough and allows the numbness to stay longer? I don't want to take any risk. Any insights will be highly appreciated. Thanks!!

About a year ago, my molar cracked. I've always taken good care of my teeth, so I was upset. The dentist recommended a root canal. I know those are really painful, though, so I didn't want one. I went to a second dentist, who said that the tooth couldn't be saved. He said I either needed a root canal or tooth extraction. I decided to have the tooth pulled since I don't like pain. I went to see another dentist to have the tooth pulled. He looked at the x-ray and said that a root canal would not have saved the tooth, so I was glad I made the right decision. I was in and out of his office in 15 minutes. He gave me a prescription for a pain killer, but I didn't take it. My gum was a little tender, but it healed. All in all, I miss my tooth, but I'm glad I had it pulled.
