What is the treatment done to prevent plaque build up?

Hi! my son is having a very bad plaque on the bottom of his back teeth. He is 10 years old. He complained me that his gums are feeling sore. He brushes and flosses daily. But he doesn't clean his mouth after eating. So that might be the reason behind the plaque formation in his teeth. He didn't have any tooth related problems since this age. So I have never taken him to the dentist before. My husband suggested taking him to a clinic in Kitchener. We are planning to take him for his first dental visit. I don't know how he reacts to the procedure. I don't even know whether he is afraid of the dental procedures. So I am a little nervous about his first dental visit ( https://www.smiletown.ca/parents-info/first-visit/ ). Has anyone had faced a similar situation with your child? What did you do? What is the treatment done to prevent plaque build up? Is the procedure painful? Is it possible to get rid of plaque from the teeth permanently? Please share your insights. Thank you!

Hi!! He just needs to be going to the dentist every 6 months for a cleaning. As far as I know there is no way to prevent plaque. I have been taking my boys since they were 4-5 years old for cleanings. They do fine. Nothing to worry about. ;)
