Teaching how to be Gentle

Right now my 9.5month old wants to touch everyone, their face their hair, the dogs. But her "touching" is more like smacking, poking, and scratching. Not on purpose but because she just doesn't understand how to be gentle yet. She'll fling around toys in her hands and hit you in the face, at Gymboree class all the babies want to climb on each other and pull each others hair. I know it's out of curiosity.

Right now whenever shes being too rough we stop her and try to tell her "gentle" or "easy" we take her hands and try to show her how to pet the dog nicely. What did you do to help teach your children to be gentle and not too rough?

I agree with Mara too. It doesn't usually happen overnight but eventually she will get it. Just reinforce, reinforce, reinforce.
