Car Seats

Sophia is 8 months old and is starting to outgrow the infant car seat plus with my tendonitis carrying the car seat and sophia in it is getting to be so heavy. I want to put in the Britax convertible car seat which is stationary in the car but not sure if i should. I read all the instructions and it says you can put a baby 5lbs-40lbs rear facing and 20lbs-65lbs forward facing. Advantages are I only need to pick her up and place her in the seat once at the car. Disadvantages are not as reclined if she falls asleep, if she does fall asleep I have to lift her out, can't use my snap and go anymore, i would need to use the big stroller which is heavy in itself, have to bundle her up more and remove layers in the car. With the infant seat i had the bundle me so she didn't need jackets and such. Wow typing this made me realize there's more disadvantages than advantages yikes. What do you think?

Oh I agree I want nothing but what's safe for my Sophia. I'm currently using the graco infant car seat someone got me from my shower. It's also very safe. The Britax I thought was only for toddlers but when I read the instructions it said it's a convertible one and can be used before they are a toddler as long as it is rear facing like you said until they are 2. Both seats are very very safe. It's just a matter of making the switch or waiting a little. But I think I'm going to make the switch. Like you said the first few trips out will be an adjustment but then it will become routine.

    Thanks for the advice.

We moved our 10 month old to a convertible seat at 7 months, I love it and she loves it. I like you was having a hard time toting her around in the infant seat. She needs to be rear facing until 2 but she seems to have more room to spread out in the convertible seat, also the one we have is reclined until it faces forward so she's not sitting straight up. Holly really likes to ride in the cart at stores so I don't really mind that i have to take her in and out alot. The winter has sort of sucked bc she needs to wear a thin enough coat to go under the straps and have a blanket, but it won't be cold forever. Also the seat we have is good up to 110lbs and converts into a booster when she's older so assuming she doesnt max out the height (i dont think she will) we will have this seat until shes big enough to be out of one. We have the Evenflo Symphony LX

I remember this time.. when they're ready for the bigger seat, but the convenience of them in a baby seat was SO NICE!!! I stretched it out until it was just no longer safe.. when their heads were above the seat... and I still miss the convenience of it.. And they're 7 and 9!!!
I say go until it's no longer safe.. feet dangling over or their head is just over the top.. and for reclining.. you can put a towel under the seat, so that it leans back a little bit.. it's still safe if that little ball thingy is in the red... I just tilted it enough that their head didnt' fall forward when they feel asleep.. although it still did on occasion.. I can't tell you how many times I looked back and their head is flopped forward, dangling there... Drove me nuts, but I knew that it bothered me more than them...
