LINDA! - This question is for you - and I'm risking being an idiot asking you...

But I'm going to anyway... So, My son recently caught the N word on Jay Z and JT's new song "Holy Grail".. Of course I downloaded the explicit version and forgot... anyway.. He asked what they meant and I told him, "It's a derogatory word used towards black people".. and then he said, well, why is Jay Z saying it? And isn't JT white?

It's 7:30 in the morning man! How do I explain race tensions and words and phrases and how it's ok for Jay Z to sing it but not JT when it's a "bad" word..

I asked my close friend at school this morning and she said that her kids just sort of get it. (She's black).. and I asked her what from HER perspective what she thinks I should tell my kids. How would she want it explained?

I hope you don't take offense to this... at all. I 'm super curious though. ANd it never really occurred to me that I would have to explain it to my son... does that make sense?
