When will my baby be born?

That is the million dollar question! Your doctor can not even answer when your baby will be born. No one really understands what causes a woman to go into labor. Remember that pregnancy is 40 weeks long and your due date can be off by 2 weeks in either direction. It is not uncommon to go to 42 weeks gestation.

Your pregnancy is considered full term at 39 weeks. Any baby born before 39 weeks is considered premature and at risk for multiple medical complications. According to the March of Dimes the brain size of a 35 week baby is about half the size of a 40 week baby. The brain development in those last few weeks is amazing and crucial. The eyes, lungs and digestive tract are also developing at fast rates during the last weeks.

I understand that the end of pregnancy is uncomfortable and that you are so excited to meet your new baby. Try to enjoy the last few weeks of your pregnancy and not rush it along.
