B got her goats!

Over the weekend our second oldest finally got her goats! Her 2013 birthday and Christmas gifts. :) They are Oberhasli and mainly used for dairy, though the males can be used for meat. B is very excited and they are acclimating very well to our farm so far. My husband built their stall out of free wood pallets. Now we just have to figure out how to get pasture set up for them. We have an area already fenced from the previous owner, we just have to enclose it because it is open right now.

Can't believe we are goat owners! These two does were bred so we will probably have 1 to 4 kids come spring, plus lots of goat milk for soap making and drinking if we like! B named them Annabeth and Hazel.

Yeah she has some regular customers she gained last year. We take her to a few market/trade show type events locally. We have been invited to take six samples to a local Garden center, which we will do this month. So that's kind of cool.

I don't think I knew that, Magen. That's a fun memory for you! B is excited for the baby goats coming this spring, though I don't know if she will bottle feed them or just let their mamas feed them and share the milk with them. We'll soon find out.

If you look at the photo, one has a red collar and one has a pink one. Annabeth has the red one and Hazel has the pink. She said she can tell them apart and I think it's because Annabeth is bigger. They do have different facial markings as well. She just bought them new collars as they are outgrowing the ones they have on. Annabeth will have blue and Hazel green. :)
