Non-traditional births?

Anybody had a non traditional birth? Maybe as simple as no medication, or as much as a birth in nature, home birth, water birth... etc. Has anyone tried epidural birth and natural birth?

    wow, good question...
why do you call home birth non-traditional? As I know it's the most traditional - for a thousand years women gave birth at home).
Are you going to use one of those ways for your future labours?

I have always wanted to do a home birth, but for this one I think I would like to try a water birth I will likely do in a hospital since we are moving right around the due date.

I call home birth non-traditional (because you're right... it's the most traditional!) because most women I know have not done it and would not consider it. When I approached home birth to family and neighbors, I was met with a lot of anger, disdain, and concern. A lot of people don't see the benefit of it! So, I guess I just meant uncommon. :D

I've heard recovery is usually faster without the epidural. Since you've done it both ways now- which do you prefer? I can hardly wait to see my little baby. :D

My oldest I had natural. My last two I had with an epidural. I am not sure with this one yet, but I think I am going back to a natural birth. My back has been really bad since my epidurals. With Grahm, they had a hard time getting the needle in my back.

I've had births with no medication and my last three births have been at home. My second home birth, which was our seventh child, was an unassisted home birth because our son arrived before our midwife got to our house. She was five minutes late due to having been stopped for speeding - no ticket thankfully. And my husband did great catching our son alone!

Wow! What a story. I'm hoping hubby will get to catch the baby, though I hope a bit more supervised since this will be our first.

I had a c-section with my first son as he was breech when I went to go and have him. A natural hospital vbac with my second son. Third son was born in a birth center with midwives, and my fourth son was born at home unassisted. My midwife missed it by half an hour and it was perfect!!

Wow. Was it hard to have a VBAC? I have a friend who they won't even let her try even though her body has changed since her first. As soon as the first signs of labor are there, they schedule a C section.

Angie, my unassisted birth is still my favorite birth because I've always secretly wanted to have a baby unassisted with just my husband and I.

I know not all hospitals are the same, but just the same, some bad hospital experiences turned me off, and changed my husband's mind about home birth...so good came from the bad in that sense. However, I have no desire to go back to a hospital, unless I absolutely have to.

I was told I couldn't try so I went to a different hospital. They can't make you do anything. We are consumers. Sorry to get back to this so late!

With my first two babies I had drug free vaginal births. My third birth was excruciatingly painful and I needed an epidural, the epidural was amazing. My fourth baby was born with an unmedicated vaginal birth. With my last three I had a ton of doctors and nurses in the room because they were really premature.
